Hey Everyone.

First of all, Christmas was great. Guess what I got?? A new digi-camera! Watch out world!! I'm coming to take pictures of you!

Second order of buisness, I just finished watching season three of Doctor Who. Not like anyone really cares, but just so you know, it was amazing. HERE COME THE DRUMS!!!! It was fantastic!!

Thirdly, I'm going to Hawaii! I'm SOOO excited! We're going to go stay in a beach house by the hukilau beach. (yes, hukilau from the song.) :) So I won't be seeing y'all until the eighth. (!!!!)

Fourth topic, I'm really bored. I haven't done anything this weekend, really. . . I mean, at least anything productive. I can't live with myself when I'm not going anywhere, that's the truth. No wonder I'm an honor student. lol. I have nothing to read! My mom won't take me to Holliday Library to get books!

I have writer's block!! AAAHHHGG!
But according to the professionals, the best way to get rid of writer's block is to write, so here I go. This article is going to include many various ideas about. . . popcorn.

I love popcorn. It is one of the best snack foods on the planet, even if you're on a diet. Actually, if you eat a ton of popcorn on a diet, it probably wouldn't help you too much. (Unless, of course, you ate the popcorn plain.) I can hardly stand going to a movie theater without popcorn, it's just traditional.

I like kettle corn the most. It's way good. It tastes sweet and crunchy at the same time. . . yum.
Although you can never go wrong with the normal movie theater butter popcorn, like I said, it's traditional. You know what? They should serve kettle corn at movie theaters! That would be totally sweet. . . literally! Maybe they already serve it? I don't know, I've never seen it if they do.

In fact, I'm eating popcorn right now!! (Imaginary popcorn. . .)

My New CentralVac

I bet you read the title of that and are now very confused. A centralvac is this cool kind of vacuum cleaner.
To explain it? Well, there are little holes in the wall everywhere. (They're not just random punches in the wall, but they have pipes and covers over them.) The vacuum is this puny little thing, it's like a stick with the . . . uh
. . . sucker thingamabobber at the end. So, basically, you plug that into any one of those holes and then press the on switch. Then you vacuum wherever you need to vacuum. (Duh)
All of the stuff sucked up by the vacuum goes down into a giant plastic bag downstairs, and you only have to empty it like once a month. Cool, huh?
Bye, bye, heavy evil vacuum!

General Conference

Was general conference awesome or what? I learned a lot this weekend, so much that I don't even want to write it down! (I'm not being sarcastic, I really did learn a lot, but, uh, it's kind of hard to remember so I don't think I could write it down if I tried. . .)

I love it when the general authorities tell stories. My favorite story was told by . . . um . . . that one old guy. (Sorry, I can't be specific about which old guy.)It was the story of how his daughter was going to go on a blind date, and the guy came and rang the doorbell. The daughter was a little surprised at how old this man was, but she smiled as he introduced himself to her parents, and then she walked with him out to the car. (Er, I wasn't listenening entirely well because during this talk I was either eating breakfast or lunch, reading the paper, or doing some other totally random thing like maybe oragami.) So, she went out and got in his car, but he didn't leave. A few minutes later, she came back in, and told her parents that she had agreed to be the man's babysitter. Oh my gosh, would that be embarassing or what???

So, that's my general conference experience. Cool, no?

War of The Worlds

Help me, I'm falling asleep . . .
So, I'm attempting to read War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells right now. Wowza! It's soooo boring. . . The only book I've ever read that was harder to get through than this one was a book about htis amish girl who was forced to go to school. Actually, on that subject, I didn't even finish reading that book, I think I fell asleep about two chapters into it. No, I literally fell asleep.
Then again, I almost fell asleep when I was reading War of the Worlds this afternoon, too. So, I just finished book one, and I layed down on my bed to rest my eyes, and I ended up dozing off for a minute, but then the book slipped out of my hands and landed on my alarm clock and it hit the snooze button, which turned on my radio and made me jump like three feet in the air.
So, I guess this entry is just sort of stalling me from reading . . . even though I really should finish it . . .
*sigh* I do like science fiction. I really do! In fact, it's one of my favorite genres, but for some reason a story of people running around England like chickens with their heads cut off isn't so great. I'm already to the hundred thirty-fifth page and nothing has happened!!!!
Okay. I hope you were really bored and had fun reading that, because I don't even care if anyone even reads this becasue it basically just says how insanely boring War of the Worlds is.
(P.S: I am sooo going to catch up with your reading after I finish this one tongiht . . . mwahahahaha . . . . !!!!)

Prince Charming

Okay, guys, I am really distressed right now! Guess what??? The prince on Cinderella DOESN'T HAVE A NAME! His name is just plain old stupid prince, or prince charming, as he's referred to in the book. Talk about boring. All characters are supposed to have names! Especially the hansem prince! It should be like the other Disney movies, with all of the cute guy names like Edward, Eric, and Phillip. Nope, they just decided that he wasn't important enough to name. Go figure.

Henry Hudson

WaaAAAaaaHhhhHH!!! I had to present my Henry Hudson report today in front of the whole honors class and Mrs. Wright!!! That was soooo scary! Was I shaking? I know I was shaking. I felt like I was going to fall over, as in pass out! That was scarier than spiders and jellyfish!! wait. . . maybe not jellyfish. Do you know what's even scarier? What's my grade gonna be?? We all know Mrs. Wright is a pretty tough judge, and I was all butterflies!

Oh, well. Hey, at least it's done and over with, but I would sooo rather have dome it in Mrs. Jacklin's class.

I just read over that, and it really didn't make too much sense. haha. Just read it a few times and you'll eventually understand what I was trying to say.

With DDR

Guess what? I officially completed a dance on the hardest level of DDR without failing! Challenge mode! Not that anyone really cares, but since DDR is one of my hobbies and something I ttly rock at, I just thought I'd announce that to everyone . . .

Okay, If I come to school all scratched up on Monday it's because Truman and Harlee pushed me down the hill in a wagon. At least it's just scratches, and I didn't go into the river or kill myself on the tree like Truman did haha. Or, at least we weren't lighting eachother on fire, but you'd have to be there to understand that.

Something About My Toothbrush:
Last night when I was brushing my teeth, all of the bristles came out. ??????? What is the world coming to when a toothbrush won't even stay together???????

Run On Sentances Tottally Rock!

So today I woke up at seven and went to school and during first period stage crew we built sets and it was fun but a nail has gone through my foot a couple times there and it really hurts when that happens even if you are wearing tennis shoes then in chorus we sang songs like we always do only we sang this really high one that's actually in latin and it was weird but it's still fun and third third period was theater and me and Truman and Amy and Kaitlin did a pretty awesome skit about these nerds and bullies and it was pretty much hilarious and in history and english we worked on our term projects and that was fun for a while except then it got really boring and every time Mrs. Wright walked by me I was looking at my board and she got mad at me and thought I wasn't doing anything because nothing is glued on my board right now but it will be tommorrow but today I just drew squigglies on the sides and organized the information and glued the info to the construction paper so yeah and then sixth period was geometry and that wasn't fun at all because math is stupid and we started proofs today and they kind of confuse me but I hope I get a good score on my homework because I have a freakin' A- and I want to bring it up to an A so that Tori can't bug me about it anymore because we all know she got an A and then in seventh period I had fun like always because we got to sit cross-legged on the desk like genies because that's what Mr. Rolan did yesterday and he said we could do it if we really wanted to torture ourselves so we did just to annoy him and make him think we are freaks but I thought it was really fun until everyone else sat down and I felt tall so I sat down because I don't like to feel tall even though I am and it's even worse when I'm around Greyden and Adriana and other short people because I feel like a giant and my feet look big then after that I tried out to be in a cowgirl trio for the school musical and I think I did pretty well at least I hope I did because it would be cool to have a part like that and then I came home and went to piano lessons and almost fell asleep on the couch and then went to young womens and here I am. :)

Melanie's Weekends

Weekends may be the most awesome things ever created! I wake up on Friday mornings, and I'm like, "Yes! I am so happy to get out of bed and I will do it willingly bacause I know today is going to be awesome!" Well, maybe I don't say that exactly, but I do think it. Fridays are great bacause they have all the fun of school without the learning. In chorus, we get to sing fun duop and oldies songs. In theatre we play games, and I especially love science, because we basically just hang out. Last Friday was fun in science, because, while everyone else played a painful version of "rock, paper, scissors," I had fun watching Truman attempting to do yoga on the desk.
When the bell rings to go home, I'm almost sad. Amost, that is, :)
Most Fridays I walk home from school with Celene, and sometimes we hang out and make snow cones. Lately, we've been practicing a song on the piano which we are getting pretty good at. Since I'm better at piano, (No offense, Celene, but I have had lessons,) we were thinking that she could figure out a way to play it on her French Horn while I accompany on the piano. That would be pretty cool. I wonder if anyone has ever attempted to play "If We Hold on Together," on the French Horn? Probably not, there aren't very many people who play French Horn. Seriously, there's only like two of them in the school band. And anyway, if we just can't figure it out, then we'll just sing along to the end credits of The Land Before Time.
Friday Nights, I play night games with my eighth grade friends, usually. We play some pretty intense games of Truth or Dare. "Tori, I dare you to lick the tree!" Yeah. We play G-rated truth or dare most of the time.
Saturday mornings I sleep in until about nine thirty, and then hang around the house until maybe noon or one. After that, most of the time I get together with friends, either I hang out with Celene, like yesterday, or I go play soccer at the school with the eighth and ninth graders. I can't play soccer at all, just so you know.
Saturday nights are the best, in a really nerdy sort of way. I write and read in my room while listening to Show Tune Saturday Night on 106.5 F.M. Then, at eleven, I always get a glass of milk and sit on my super cool couch to watch a replay of doctor who seasons one and two on channel eleven. After the forty five minute episode, I go to bed. Well, sometimes I stay up even later and watch a chick flick or have a dance party in my room. Through that, I discovered how painful hard surfaces such as desks and lamps can be, how cold it is when you spill a glass of ice water on your foot, and how high I can jump when I see a spider.
Sunday mornings I'm just about dead, and yet I always attempt to make myself breakfast. I can't cook at all. This morning I felt a little bit sick while I was eating the omlet I made, and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it! I think maybe I didn't cook it long enough or something. I get ready for church and am usually ready in time. When I get home, I come back into the computer lab to do research or blog or whatever.
At about six o' clock on Sunday nights, I go to my grandparents house and we have dinner and play games. I enjoy playing apples to apples with my family, and my brothers and sisters are constantly on the Wii.
Then, I have to go to bed at a decent hour, sadly, and when I wake up in the morning I usually sleep through my alarm. I tell myself, "I am NOT willing to wake up bacause if I do I will be tired all day!!"
Then, it's Monday. Then what do I think? Here we go again.

Mel Reviews: "Get Smart"

Today I went to see "Get Smart" with my friend Celene. I wasn't as impressed as some people were.
While parts of it were funny, other parts were just unnecessary. If you watch the movie, you'll find a few examples. What really bugged me is, hello! They were on a secret mission, not a honeymoon! I've always been a fan of movies with a good love storyline; but what annoys me most is when it's totally obvious that something's going to happen. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that they're going to hit it off at the end.
A good, and one of my favorite, examples is; "Around the World in Eighty Days". In the end, you have a feeling that Phillius Fogg and Monique Larouge would somehow fall in love, because they hinted it. But Phillius wasn't being a freak and staring up her skirt and being nasty like that. Now, who would you want more? Matt or Phillius? I would take Phillius any day.
It was a hilarious movie overall, and I thought Anne Hathaway did a great job as agent #99.
Would it be worth to see in the regular theaters? No, but $1.25 is worth it, so go catch it in the dollar theatres or rent it from the red box, or you'll be missing out on a lot of great laughs. And did you know that laughing makes you healthy??? :)

Sesame Street

When I was three years old, I sat in front of the TV every morning before preschool to watch Elmo's world and Oscar's little worm, Slimey, who I thought was the most adorable thing in the world.

Now, I watch Sesame Street with my little sister on a Friday afternoon and I'm amazed at what I'm seeing. What happened ot the Sesame Street I knew as a toddler? Parents and scientists have got in on the act and tried to make the show "Appropriate" for their children.

Things they have changed about Sesame street since I last knew it:



1. Parents were concerned that Bert and Ernie were a gay couple, so the producers were deciding what to do. They've seperated Bert and Ernie, rarely showing them together now, if at all. They were thinking about diagnosing Ernie with Cancer. How sad is that! Imagine, if you were a mother, and your kid comes up to you and says, "Mama, why did Ernie die?", "Well, the public thinks Bert and Ernie are gay, so they had to kill one of them." And do you seriously think the kids care? They're not gay, they're PUPPETS!



2. Cookie Monster, who always sang "C is for Cookie," is no longer allowed to sing that song. Why? Bacause it makes children want to eat cookies. This is unhealthy, so they had to teach cookie monster that cookies were a "sometimes" snack. And now, let me present to you . . . "The Veggie Monster!"

"V is for Veggie, that's good enough for me . . ."

That's retarted. I'm sorry, but it just is.

Mermaids

Lately, I have been studying the famous explorer Henry Hudson for my cross-curriculum history and english project. Honestly, he wasn't the most interesting person. He was born, he explored, his crew thought he was crazy and stranded him and his teenage son in a boat, and they were never seen again. That's pretty much this guy's life.
But, something that fascinated me was that on his third voyage he claimed to have seen a mermaid. He said that the mermaid came up to the side of the boat, looked at the crew, and then dived under, revealing her fish tail. The historians say that Hudson was a seasoned sailor, and he couldn't have mistakened a mermaid, which he described in great detail, for a walrus or other sea creature.
This makes me wonder: Is there a such thing as mermaids, or just men at sea longing to see women again? This isn't always the case. Looking up reports of mermaid sightings, two women have seen mermaids throughout history. Were they just crazy ladies doing their laundry on the beach, or were they telling the truth?
Mermaids have been portrayed in so many ways throughout time, through movies, books, and descriptions. There was the classic disney movie, "Little Mermaid", which basically made mermaids cute little creatures in great numbers, who wanted to hide themselves from humans. Sure, it was an adorable movie, but completely fiction. Now, I'm not saying that mermaids are real, but if I were to say that, then I would show them in a way that they coordinate with the explorers descriptions.The basic way mermaids have been described is:

• Long, Dark, Glossy Hair (One person said green hair)
• Ruddy (or red) cheeks
• Round Foreheads
• Finely shaped noses
• Light blue or "hollow" eyes, very round
• Long ears
• Overdeveloped breasts
• Large, scaley tales

So, now I probably know everything I can possibly know about mermaids. Well, except for the fact if they're actually real or not, and if someone can explain to me what it was that all those people were seeing, then let me know. In the meantime, it's so much easier to worry about life above water.

My favorite things

I think everyone should have a few things that make them extremely happy. And no one has exactly the same thing, and some things are completely different than others. For example: one of grandpa's favorite things might be Ebay. My little sister's favorite thing might be kittens. But, as for me. . .

• Doctor who at 11 o' clock P.M.
• A big glass of milk
• A short day at school
• An extended episode of American Idol
• An empty box
